EFG London Jazz Festival

Here at MusicTeacher.co.uk we are delighted to have been informed about a free participation project for guitarists as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

Led by musician Chris Montague, A Brief History of the Coolest Instrument in the World is a performance which marks the milestones of the electric guitar’s prolific role through 80 years of popular culture, from Charlie Christian to Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix and beyond. This unique show highlights the great guitarists through the ages with through a mixture of performance and speech, celebrating the versatility of the instrument and providing an opportunity for amateur guitarists to perform an original composition with Chris and his band on stage.

In November 2017 the project will be presented as part of both the Hull Jazz Festival and the EFG London Jazz Festival. Serious Trust, the charity behind the event, are looking for people to participate in the project and perform as part of a large guitar ensemble.

They would welcome small groups of guitar ensembles or individuals who would like to take part in this project. If this would be of interest to you or any of your guitar students, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Grace Lindley, the Learning & Participation Coordinator, via [email protected].

More information can be accessed by visiting the serious.org.uk website, along with the opportunity to sign up to take part.

Please note that if a child (ages 7-11) would like to take part, an adult will be required to accompany the participant for pastoral care on the day.

Those individuals who would like to take part in London, will be required to take part in an evening rehearsal on the 25th October, alongside the rehearsal and performance day on the 18th November at the Southbank Centre.
